The Canadian Association for Tay-Sachs & Allied Diseases (CATSAD) was founded in 1988 by a group of concerned parents, family members and friends of children with rare neurodegenerative genetic diseases including Tay-Sachs, Niemann-Pick, Canavan, Metachromatic Leukodystrophy and others.

Tay-Sachs and the allied diseases are genetic conditions that are classified as storage diseases. They cause progressive mental and physical deterioration due to an abnormal build-up of certain waste products in the cells or tissues of affected infants, children and adults. While the symptoms of these related disorders vary, people affected share many issues and concerns.

Carrier and prenatal screening are possible to determine carrier status for many of these conditions, but when someone is diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease, family support services can make all the difference.  CATSAD can help, we are just a phone call or email away.
